CEDAR, a unique pan-European network of successful professionals of Muslim background, launched in 2008 and facilitated by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, works to mainstream diversity on the highest levels. Major CEDAR initiatives to date include a European youth mentoring programme and the European Muslim Women of Influence List.

European Muslim Women of Influence

The European Muslim Women of Influence List aims to diversify the mainstream representation of Muslim women and inspire accomplishment across Europe’s diverse communities. In its inaugural year the European Muslim Women of Influence initiative has received nominations spanning 11 European countries and encompassing a diverse range of professional fields, including law, journalism, religion, the arts, government and medicine.

Working in close collaboration with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, the British Council supports this initiative as part of its Our Shared Europe programme.

The conference and gala event will bring together entrepreneurs, media representatives, thought leaders, senior policy officials and politicians for an evening of debate, engagement and celebration.

Hosted by Casa Árabe the event will commence with a lively panel policy discussion featuring leading public figures and focusing on the evolving diversity of European society and the position of Muslims therein.

The event will then feature the announcement of the European Muslim Women of Influence finalists and their inspirational stories will be showcased in partnership with the British Council.

Providing guests with a unique pan European networking experience and engagement in high-level discussion reflecting on the future of leadership and cultural pluralism within Europe, the gala will also feature fusion musical performances and art exhibitions along with the premier of a short documentary directed and co-produced by award winning filmmaker Jobeda Ali and supported by the British Council, bringing to light the diversity of Europe's professional societies and the energy and resources they foster for wider social change.
